Jacob Abel is a Norwegian bass. As part of the young artists programme of the Norwegian National Opera, he debuted roles such as Colline (La Bohème) and Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia). He graduated from the opera academy in Oslo in 2020.
In the 2022-23 season, he performed the role of Montano in Verdi’s Otello at Oscarsborg Opera, and Angelotti in Puccini’s Tosca at Norwegian National Opera. In concert he performed, among others, Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème and Haydn’s Die Schöpfung with the Arctic Philharmonic, and Mozart arias (Figaro, Leporello and Sarastro) at Bergen National Opera. In November 2023, he makes debut at Opera Vlaanderen as Nourabad in Les Pêcheurs de Perles in Antwerp and Ghent. In concert, he will sing the title role in Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Cathedral of Kristiansand.
In previous seasons, Jacob Abel has performed the roles of Zuniga in Carmen, Rychtář in Jenůfa, Mars in Orphée aux enfers, Colline in La Bohème, Simone in Gianni Schicchi, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, all between 2020 and 2022 at Norwegian National Opera. Previously at the opera academy, he sang Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte on tour in Norway, Pistola in Falstaff, Plutone in Monteverdi’s Il ballo delle ingrate and the role of Joe in Mahagonny.
In concert, he has sung Mozart’s Requiem with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle.
